Antenatal Care Options - Closure of PPC

If you’ve been affected by the sudden closure of PPC and left wondering where to go now.. I’m sorry! I’m sure this was an unexpected bump in your journey.

This blog does not comment on the closure, I am an independent Birth Doula and am in no way affiliated with PPC but I have seen so many questions popping up from women wondering where to go next so this blogs provides some options for you.

It may not be every option out there, these are just the ones I am aware of.. please let me know if I have missed any. Also note I have only included options for antenatal care NORTH OF THE RIVER in Perth, for more details on further options visit my other blog “Your (many) Birthing Options in Perth”

Here we go in no specific order:

  1. Western Obstetrics

They come highly recommended from anyone I know that has used them. You can have your antenatal and postnatal care with them and still birth publicly (at Osborne Park or KEMH). They have a load of other facilities like lactation consultant, physio and more. Located in Balcatta they are inclusive to most mummas. There is a small out of pocket fee after medicare rebate for each appointment.

  2. Private Practicing Midwife

Some private midwives don’t attend births but can still provide antenatal and postnatal care in your home. This is a fantastic option for continuity of care (besides birth). There is a small out of pocket fee after medicare rebate.

  3. Other Midwifery Hubs

There are other midwifery hubs NOR, I don’t have any personal experience with them but they are currently taking clients so they’re worth checking out. There is a Midifery Clinic in Yanchep which I can’t find a link for there is also Bundle & Me in multiple locations

  4. A New Midwifery Clinic - Gaynor

One of the midwives from PPC is said to be opening a new clinic next week called Perth Pregnancy Centre

    email: gaynor@perthpregnancy.com.au

  5. Apply to Community Midwife Practice or Midwifery Group Practice through KEMH

You’ll be assigned a small team of midwives to work with. With CMP they will attend appointments in your home and MGP will be at the hospital. They have strict requirements and don’t accept most “high risk” women.

    For MGP contact KEMH directly

  6. Family Birth Center

You will see a small group of midwives and can birth at the family birth center if you’re accepted, also have strict intake requirements

  7. You should be able to attend standard appointments through your birthing hospital, contact them directly

  8. Shared Care with your GP (may only see you til 20 weeks but you may be able to get longer under these circumstances)

  9. You can switch to having a private midwife or private obstetrician care for you throughout your pregnancy, birth and postpartum. This comes with a large out of pocket sum but Private Midwifery Care is the gold standard of care and SO worth the money. They may or may not already be booked out for your due month
